Alpha Gamma Delta and Texas Scottish Rite Hospital

The Epsilon Psi chapter at UT Dallas holds many philanthropy events every year including bake sales, penny wars, car washes, and our annual Mr. UTD male pageant. Additionally, every year we hold a raffle which benefits the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation and the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, past prizes include wine tasting parties, autographed pictures from the Mavericks, golf packages and lessons, spa packages, comedy club tickets, hotel stays, and symphony tickets; some prizes are worth as much as $750. Through these fundraising efforts, we strive to raise $2000 each school year in order to become a Jewel Chapter. The Jewel Chapter Award—which we have received for nine consecutive years—is the highest philanthropic award given to a chapter. In addition to fundraising for the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation, we also give small gifts to our local philanthropy organization, the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children. Through donations, this hospital provides free medical care to over 14,000 children a year. Some of the small gifts we have given to the children of Scottish Rite Hospital to brighten their day have been mugs with hot cocoa mix and Valentines Day cards. In addition, we volunteer there a few weekends every semester. When we go, we craft and play board games with the children.

Mr. UTD

Mr. UTD is Alpha Gamma Delta's annual philanthropy event. It is a pageant for men at UTD who are a part of an organization that they wish to represent. The theme for 2008 was Timeless Leader, so the guys dressed up as various leaders in time, ranging from Uncle Sam, to Tarzan. Usually the proceeds go to the Alpha Gamma Delta foundation, which benefits diabetes research, and women's health research. However, this year we were fortunate enough to raise enough money to split it between the Foundation and the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children. The winner was Jarrod Payne, representing Zeta Beta Tau, the runner up was Matt Volschenk, representing Kappa Sigma, and the second runner up was Brad Perkinson, representing Student Ambassadors. Thanks to the support of Student Government and the rest of the student body, we raised over $1400, which is more than we ever have in the past.

Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation

Every year since our installation, the Alpha Gamma Deltas at UTD have participated in the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation walk with the gentlemen of Delta Epsilon Psi. In addition to the walk, we hold bake sales on campus with Delta Epsilon Psi, which raise money and awareness for Juvenile Diabetes.

Other Volunteering Opportunities

Although our chapter is rigorously involved in helping raise funds for the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation, Scottish Rite Hospital, and JDRF, we also reach out and help the community in other distinct ways. In the past, we have volunteered for several other organizations throughout the year, and we plan to maintain that standard. Additionally, our group of ladies enjoys helping other philanthropies on-campus, including those of other fraternities and sororities.
